John 14:15-17
As I was reading John 14 preparing for this Blog I found myself asking Lord what is the crux of this chapter because it is so full. After reading over a couple of times I determined that the above verses, for me, was at the center. Read this whole chapter, maybe something else will minister to you.
There are so many directions I could go with these verses. He opens this by saying If you love me do what I say. His Word is a measure of who we are in Him. It is a mirror that reflects back on us and not a window that we look through to see the faults in others.
When I was young sometimes I would disobey Daddy or try to get around something he had told me to do or not to do and more times than not I got caught, and when I was, these words would ring in my ears "Son do think I'm talking just to hear my head rattle". In the same way he was saying what God says to us; what I am saying to you is important, If you love me do as I say. To help us do what he says He has left us the Helper, the Holy Spirit, that counsels and comforts us, the spirit of truth. Jesus went to the father to sit at his right hand but he did not leave us alone. He wants us to obey Him because He knows Us better than we know ourselves and he wants only the best for us. Isn't that the reasoning behind our instructions for our children and grandchildren?
Colossians talks about that mystery in Christ which is; He lives in us and gives us the power to do whatever God says. In our flesh we don't understand and cannot do them, but by His Holy Spirit in us we can do all things. We can walk in His Power and Love.
Look in that mirror and decide what you see.
May the Lord Bless and keep you and make his face shine on you, may the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
